Wheels and Gear

Wheels and Gear

What I’m Bringing:

Hi there,

It happened!  I went on a shopping spree!  From water bottles to underwear, bicycles to cameras, I have spent years saving money, and successfully said good bye to a big chunk of it in a little under three weeks.

Before this mad shopping spree, I did months and months of research, seeing what other long distance bikers determined were there must-haves and reading lists of things that they got rid of immediately (that said, I want some of those things!).  I am still several months away from leaving, but with almost 90% of my purchases under my belt, I can still update this.

One list that I leaned heavily on was the Road South. I like this list because it is really clean cut and well organized, let alone I agree with most of it.  Some items I don’t quite understand—what is a head Balaclava??  But still, thanks goes tofor putting it together, it helped me create mine.

I imagine bike touring to be somewhere right smack in the middle of backpacking and biking. While I am a biker, I am still new to bike touring.  But I am not new to back packing.  I already have a lot of this light weight gear because this.  And both require good pre-planning, followed solely by desire for adventure and will to continue.

Before continuing with the list, I’d like to introduce you to my trusty companion, The Saga Coyote!  (See above). In this blog, I tell the creation story of this bicycle, and in another blog I plan to explain her na

I’m excited to hear any and all questions or comments.  Have a good one!
